Tip: Check the label inside your printer's ink access door to confirm it requires the 302 or 302XL series before purchasing. The Epson Expression Premium XP-6000 and XP-6100 are the primary printers for this cartridge series.
What Is Photo Black Ink and Why Does It Matter?
Unlike standard black ink, Photo Black (PB) is formulated specifically for photo printing on glossy and semi-glossy paper. It produces deeper blacks, more nuanced shadow detail, and smoother tonal gradations in photographs.
If you print documents only, your printer primarily uses the standard Black cartridge. If you print photos on photo paper, the Photo Black cartridge is used instead. Both are included in this 5-pack.
Epson 302 vs 302XL: Which Should You Buy?
| Epson 302 (Standard) | Epson 302XL (High Yield) | |
|---|---|---|
| Black Page Yield | ~270 pages | ~550 pages |
| Photo Black Page Yield | ~400 pages | ~800 pages |
| Color Page Yield | ~360 pages | ~650 pages |
| Best For | Light use | Regular printing |
The 302XL prints approximately 2x more pages than the standard 302 across all colors. Both sizes fit the same Epson Expression Premium printers.
How to Install Epson 302XL Ink Cartridges
- Turn on your Epson Expression Premium printer
- Open the ink cartridge access cover — the carriage will move to the replacement position
- Press the tab on the cartridge you are replacing and lift it out
- Remove the new cartridge from packaging and peel off the yellow tape completely — do not touch the green chip or ink nozzles
- Insert the new cartridge into the matching color slot and press down until it clicks
- Repeat for each cartridge being replaced, then close the access cover
- The printer will initialize automatically — run a nozzle check if needed to confirm all colors are flowing
Important: Never force a cartridge into the wrong slot. The cartridges are shaped differently for each color position to prevent incorrect installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Epson 302 and 302XL? They fit the same printers but the 302XL holds approximately twice as much ink. The 302XL yields around 550 pages for black and 650 pages for color versus approximately 270 and 360 pages respectively for the standard 302.
Can I mix 302 and 302XL cartridges? Yes. The standard 302 and high-yield 302XL cartridges are fully interchangeable in compatible printers. You can use any combination — for example, a standard 302 Black with 302XL color cartridges.
Why does my printer show "ink level unknown" after installing? Epson printers may not be able to accurately track ink levels in remanufactured cartridges because they use a different chip than OEM cartridges. This is a display limitation only — the cartridge contains a full amount of ink and will print normally. Monitor print quality rather than the on-screen ink indicator.
What if a cartridge is leaking when I receive it? Every Lemero cartridge is tested for leaks before shipping. If you receive a cartridge that is leaking or damaged, contact Lemero support immediately — our lifetime warranty covers replacement or refund at no cost to you.
Will using remanufactured cartridges void my Epson printer warranty? No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Epson cannot void your printer warranty solely because you used a remanufactured or compatible cartridge.
How long can I store unused cartridges? Store unopened cartridges in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best results, use within 18–24 months of purchase.
